The Caribbean.

The Caribbean is one of the World most exclusive regions.  Beautiful sandy beaches, tropical climates, great food and lots of rum punch.  There are so many Caribbean Islands to choose from, each with it’s own special quality.  No matter which island you choose, I have no doubt you will have a fabulous time.  The climate alone is reason enough to take a trip.  The weather in the Caribbean is mostly hot, hot, hot!

Where is the caribbean?

The Caribbean is a group of islands situated between the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico. South West of the Atlantic Ocean. If you stand in the right spots from certain islands. You can see both the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea.

Caribbeans are mostly friendly and very welcoming.  They are use to visitors to their island, tourism is their biggest trade.  Caribbean music is traditionally, calypso (also called soca) and reggae.   Deliously seasoned, sweet and sometimes very hot and spicy is the best way to describe Caribbean food.

List Of Caribbean Islands.

Below is a list of the most popular Caribbean islands, with a brief description of some of the things you can do and enjoy when you travel to any one of the Caribbean islands.

Antigua is part of the Leeward Islands in the Caribbean.  Situated between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.   St Johns is the capital city and the official currency is the EC (East Caribbean) dollar).  Although the US dollar is also legal tender.  English Harbor and Nelson’s Dockyard are two of the Island’s most well known and popular tourist spots.  Antigua has long been famous for it’s 365 beaches spread across the beautiful small Island.  There are hundreds of quiet secluded beaches, it’s hard to choose.  A few of the most popular beaches are; Runaway Beach and Half Moon Bay with it’s fabulous pink sand, and Dickenson Bay which has Entertainment Centers, tours and Dance Club.  There is King’s Casino in St. John’s and Fort James, also St John’s.  If you’re feeling fit, Fig Tree Drive rainforest is great for hikers.  English Harbour is also internationally famous for it’s annual Sailing Week held end April – 1st week in May each year.  It attracts many sailing professionals, sailors and celebrities.  Other tourist attractions and excursions include Shirley Heights, overlooking Nelson’s Dockyard.  Other tourist activities include Kayaking, Swimming, Snorkeling, Boat ride; Birdwatching and cruises.  The average high temp is around 27°c; average low temp 22°c, and the Country drives of left side of the road.  Antigua is a popular spot for Caribbean holidays and Wedding parties.

Barbuda is a smaller island that is a part of Antigua and Barbuda.  The capital city is Codrington with it’s currency being the same as Antigua’s.  Barbuda’s main tourist attractions is the rare Frigate Bird Sanctuary.  If you ever wanted to see the gathering of colourful rear wild birds, this would be the place.  Other popular tourist spots is the Indian Cave where you will see ancient Amerindian carvings.  The island is also famed for it’s pink sand beaches. The average high temp is around 27°c; average low temp 22°c, and the Country drives of left side of the road.  The uninhabited tiny Caribbean island of Redonda is also a part of Antigua and Barbuda.  The island is really a huge steep volcanic rock and not much else.

Anguilla is part of the Leeward Islands in the Caribbean and also British overseas territory.  The island is directly north of Saint Martin via the Anguilla Channel.  Anguilla’s capital city is The Valley, the island although small is famous for it’s amazing beaches and coral reefs. The official currency is the Eastern Caribbean dollar, the US dollar is also accepted.  The Country drives on left side of the road, the average annual temperature is around 27°c.  One of the main tourist attractions is Sombrero Island, 1 of  8 other smaller islands and cays within the territory.  There you can visit the Heritage Museum and see the famous 360ft wide lighthouse.

The Bahamas is a Caribbean Country consisting of 29 islands.  The capital is Nassau and the official currency is the Bahamian dollar although many business do accept US dollar.  Tourist attractions include, The Bahamian Queen daytime cruise where you can dance, snorkel, sunbath and enjoy unlimited tropical drinks.  Blue Lagoon Island where you can learn about and swim with the dolphins.  country and city Nassau shore excursion highlighting famous landmarks such as Fort Charlotte.  Drives of left side on the road.  Average high temperature is around 28°C; average low  is around 22°C.

Barbados is a Windward Island and the Caribbean Sea the Capital city is Bridgetown.  A popular Caribbean island among the Brits.  Barbados well known for it’s hotels and private villas available to rent.  It has an exotic wildlife Reserve in Saint Peter.  Many other tourist spots such as, Barbados Historical Museum, The Animal Flower Sea Cave, located at North Point, St. Lucy.  The Cave has a coral floor which is estimated to be around half a million years old.  There are also many beaches some with pink sand and duty free shopping.  The official currency is the Barbadian dollar, the country drives of left side on the road, and average annual temperatures are around 23°C – 28°C.

The Cayman Islands is probably known Worldwide as an offshore financial district.  It is a British Overseas territory island which is North of Jamaica and south of Cuba in the Caribbean.  It is made of three islands; Cayman Brac, Grand Cayman and Little Cayman, The capital city is George Town.  The Grand Cayman’s most famous tourist attraction is the Seven Mile Beach.  There you will find the most exclusive and luxury hotels and resorts.  Many of the restaurants and beach bars are open to and happy to receive tourist.  Other tourist attractions are Stingray City, where you can swim and pet Stingrays.  The Turtle Farm and hiking tours to the Mastic Trail.  The official currency is the Cayman Islands dollar.  The average annual temperatures between 20°C – 28°C. depending on the time of year.  The country drives on left side of the road.

Cuba is surrounded by Jamaica, Haiti and the Dominican Republic on it’s north side and the Bahamas, Mexico and United States on the west side.  Cuba is the largest Caribbean island, the capital city is Havana. The official currency is the Cuban peso and the country drives on right side of the road.  A very popular tourist spot is the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Old Havana.  There you can visit historic churches and Old mansions.  Other attractions the Museo de la Ciudad (Museum of the City).  The La Bodeguita del Medio Restaurant a favourite spot of Ernest Hemingway and the famous 18th century Havana cathedral.  The average annual temperatures is around 29.50°C high and 25.00°C low.

Curaçao is a constituent country of the Netherlands off the Venezuelan coast.  The capital is Willemstad and the official currency is the Netherlands Antillean guilder.  A small but attractive island, among the 17 beaches available to enjoy is the seaquarium beach.  There are shops bars and restaurants to visit.  It has very calm water, many facilities water sports and is good for children to play in.  Other tourist spots are the Curacao Sea Aquarium, the Christoffelpark national park.  The Hato Caves and the Sea World Explorer, which is a state-of-the-art semi-submarine where you will see the coral reefs and many tropical fish.  The country drives on right side of the road.  The average annual temperatures is around 27.50°C high and 21.00°C low.

Commonwealth of Dominica is part of Windward Islands in the Caribbean.  The capital is Roseau and the official currency is the East Caribbean dollar.  often referred to as “The Nature Island” due to it’s large areas of unspoiled natural beauty.  Including tropical rainforests and lush mountains. There are many rare animals birds, and plant life.  Activities to enjoy include the Anchorage Whale Watch & Dive Center who provides a diving, Snorkelers and Whale Watching.  Hiking to the boiling lake, situated in Dominica’s Morne Trois Pitons National Park.  Dominica is well know for it’s hiking trails in the rainforest.  Such as The Emerald Pool situated close to the outskirts of the rainforest.  Or the more difficult boiling Point, approximately a 6 hour hike there and back but worth the view of bubbling boiling water surrounded by a misty vapour.  The country drives on left side of the road.  27°C is the approximate annual average temperature.

Dominican Republic is part of the the Greater Antilles. It shares the larger portion of the island of Hispaniola, which is a island made up of two sovereign states.  Haiti and the Dominican Republic. The capital of is Santo Domingo, the official currency is the Peso and the country drives on right side of the road.  The Dominican Republic is the second largest Country (behind Cuba), in the Caribbean.  there are many hotels and resorts to relax in luxury with every modern service available.  There are also many interesting tourist attractions such as Colonial City.  A 1 square mile cobbled street city, which has many historic buildings, churches, forts and palaces. A museum, built in 1500s formerly Alcazar Palace.  The house of cord (oldest building).  Other tourist attractions include; Mount Isabel de Torres, a 2,600ft statue over the city of Puerto Plata.  Posed much like the statue of Jesus Christ in Rio de Janeiro.  The temperature is approximately 25°C year round.

Grenada is a Caribbean island and a sovereign state which includes 6 other smaller islands within the Grenadines. Sounded by Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to the south. Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela to the north.  The capital city is St. George’s, the country drives on left side of the road.  The official currency is the East Caribbean dollar. Grenada tourist attractions range from heritage sites to beautiful beaches.  Hyde Park Tropical Garden, Levera National Park, Grenada National Museum and Fort Frederick all located in the capital.  Other attractions around the island include, Royal Mount Carmel Falls, Boss Reef for reef diving, Black Bay Beach which has black sand.  The average annual temperatures in Grenada is around 28°C.

The Co-operative Republic of Guyana, better known as Guyana. Geographically lays in the region of South American.  However it is part of the Commonwealth Caribbean, and a sovereign state.  Guyana is situated in the north coast of South America.  The capital city is Georgetown and the official currency is the Guyanese dollar.  One of Guyana’s major landmarks is the second tallest wooden church structures in the world; St. George’s Anglican Cathedral.  Guyana’s land area is 80% natural rain and evergreen forest, with more than 1,500 bird species and almost 1,200 different species of vertebrate.  Tourist attractions and other sites include The Guyana National Museum in Georgetown. The The Museum of African Heritage.   The Zoological Park where you will see tropical birds and fishes and a large variety wildlife of over 100 species.  Plus the number of beautiful beaches including, Bartica Beach, Shell Beach, and “the 63 Beach.”  The approximate average annual temperature is around 26.°C.  The country drives on left side of the road.

Republic of Haiti, better known as Haiti.  It shares a small West portion of the Island of Hispaniola, with the larger portion occupied by The Co-operative Republic of Guyana.  Haiti is a sovereign state.  It’s capital city is Port-au-Prince and the official currency is the Gourde.  Among the many places to visit in Haiti is Labadee which is a private all inclusive resort own by Royal Caribbean International.  Who continued upgrading the resort and helped with relief in January 2010 after the damaging hurricane it.  Other tourist attractions include the World Heritage Site of he Citadelle Laferrière.  It is a large fortress in north Haiti.  Approximately 5 miles from the town of Milot, which in itself houses The Sans-Souci Palace, which was built by King Henry 1 and is also a World Heritage Site. There are many beautiful beaches in Port-Salut which offer relaxation and bliss.  In Haiti they drive on the right hand side of the road.  The average annual temperature is approximately 27°C.

Jamaica Famous for the Caribbean Holidays enjoyed by people from all over the World.  Jamaica is an island situated in the Greater Antilles. one of the larger Caribbean islands, Jamaica lay west of Hispaniola Island.  The capital city is Kingston, the official currency is the Jamaican dollar, and the country drives on the left hand of the road.  There are many beautiful beaches, inclusive hotels and resorts in Jamaica.  Montego Bay is possibly the most world renown beach location.  It has many all inclusive resorts and grand hotels.  It has been sung about and been featured in movies.  By contrast, Treasure Beach is a peaceful and relaxing beach location tourists visit if they just want to get away from it all.  Port Royal, once the major shipping port in the Caribbean Sea.  Fort Charles located in Port Royal and Kingston Parish Church are all part of Jamaica’s National Heritage Sites.  Other tourist attractions include many beautiful sandy white beaches, Dolphin Cove in Ocho Rios and the world famous Dunn’s River falls.  Jamaica’s average temperatures are around 30°C high and 22°C low.

Nevis is the State separated from Saint Kitts by the narrow’s channel.  The capital city is Charlestown and the official currency is East Caribbean dollars and the island also drives on the left hand side of the road. You will see Nevis Peak, which is located in the center of the island.  There you can enjoy sites such as; The Museum of Nevis History and The Alexander Hamilton Museum both based in Charlestown.  Nevis have many beaches which are private, and quiet. Lover’s Beach offers sunbathing privacy; Nisbet Beach; and Cades Bay Beach.  Other activities include Scuba Diving, Sailing and fishing Charters, Nevis Botanical Gardens and Mountain Biking.  Nevis is also widely known to the business World for it’s off shore financial services.  The average annual temperature of approximately 27°C.

Puerto Rico territory of the United States, located in the Caribbean Sea.  The capital city is San Juan, the official currency is United States dollar and the country drives on the right hand side of the road.  The capital is well known as an important seaport, and one of the central tourist locations.  Also famed for designer shopping, smart restaurants and hotel resorts. Some of the major tourist spots are Viejo San Juan (Old San Juan), Puerto Rico oldest settlement; the upscale beachfront community of Ocean Park; Isla Verde Beach and the many casinos, hotels, restaurants, and night clubs.  The temperature is roughly 22°C and 32°C depending on the time of the year.

The Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis is a leeward island in the Caribbean.  Made up of two States, the smaller of them being Nevis approximately 2 miles in distance.  You can reach either island through “The Narrows” which is a shallow Channel. The capital city is Basseterre, the official currency is East Caribbean dollars and the Country drives on the left hand side of the road.  Major tourist spots on the island are The National Museum of St. Kitts in Basseterre, Turtle Beach, Scenic Railway Trip, A day pass for The Marriott hotel and beach resort is a good option.  There are restaurants, casino, shops and many palapas and chairs for the beach.  Ferry rides to Nevis take about 45 minutes.

Saint Lucia is a Caribbean Island which falls into the Windward Islands group.  It is situated south of Martinique and north of Barbados and Saint Vincent.  The capital city is Castries and the official currency is the East Caribbean Dollar.  St Lucia holds a number of festivals each year.  Most notably the annual Jazz Festival, with is usually held in the month of May.  Many Cruise ships sail to the island, among the most popular tourist spots are Castries, Gros Islet, Marigot Bay and Soufriere.  Other tourist sites are Sulphur Springs, the drive in volcano near Soufrière, on the south side of the island.  The drive in volcano is the only one of it’s kind in the World, a truly unique experience.  Other attractions include the Diamond Botanical Gardens in Soufrière, Pigeon Island National Park and the famous World Heritage site; “The Pitons” the twin Peaks (hardened rock from a long-eroded volcano).  The average annual temperature is around 26°C but can get as high as 32°C. The country drives on the left hand of the road.

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is a Windwood island in the Caribbean.  St Lucia lays to the north with Barbados to the east.  The Grenadines are situated between Saint Vincent and Grenada They are a chain of small islands belong to both Grenada (islands on the south side), and St Vincent (island on the north side).  The capital city of Saint Vincent is Kingstown, the country drives on the left hand side of the road, and the official currency is the East Caribbean dollar.  In addition to the many festivals held each year.  Some of the popular tourist attractions are the waterfalls; Baleine Falls and Trinity Falls;  St Vincent Botanic Gardens and Fort Charlotte  based in Kingstown.  St Vincent National Museum in Anchor Reef where you will see Stingrays, lobsters and barracudas.  Tobago Cays National Marine Park.  Popular beaches are Richmond Beach, Princess Margaret Beach and Indian Bay Beach.  The annual temperatures between 26°C and 32°C.

The Republic of Trinidad and Tobago is situated in the southern area of the Caribbean.  Approximately 7 miles from the Venezuelan coast.  The capital city is Port of Spain.  The official currency is the Trinidad and Tobago dollar. They Drives on the left side of the road.  Tobago is the smaller island of the states.  The capital is Scarborough and uses the same currency as Trinidad.  Pigeon Peak is the highest point on the island.  Speyside is known for it’s undisturbed coral reefs and is popular with divers.  Other tourist attractions of Trinidad and Tobago include.  Maracas Bay Beach, Fort George, National Museum and Art Gallery and the Royal Botanical Gardens are all located in Port of Spain. Trinidad also has the largest natural asphalt lake in the world which can be found at La Brea Pitch Lake.  Another popular tourist spot is Temple in the Sea, located at Waterloo, which has a fascinating history. The annual average low temperature is 26°C average high is around 34°C.
